York College Centre of Vocational Excellence for Stonemasonry

York College has been delivering stonemasonry training to the stone industry for almost 40 years.

York's historic built environment and heritage provides the perfect backdrop for a training course of this type. The city itself is a wealth of resources with stone buildings that span all architectural periods from Roman to Gothic to medieval with York Minster, the largest Gothic Cathedral in Europe, towering above the city skyline.

York is easily accessible by air, with local airports at Leeds, Hull and Doncaster, is well placed in the national rail network and by good motorway links.

York has a devoted team of highly qualified stonemasonry lecturers and visiting specialist lecturers who have continued to deliver training to the highest possible standards for many years. Many of our past students have gone on to form their own successful companies or occupy highly responsible positions in industry who now send their trainees to York College to continue the link.

We have been designated a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) for over two years and we continue to strive for excellence in training stonemasons to prepare them for work in industry. CoVE status brings with it the ability to provide students with high quality resources to enhance their training experience.
